Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Pregnancy   Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Pregnancy
About one in four pregnant women develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms, usually in both hands, and although symptoms can appear at any time, it is most common in the second half of pregnancy.

The Carpel Tunnel Syndrome symptoms usually go away gradually after you give birth as the swelling from pregnancy subsides.

Typically most pregnant women experience symptoms at night or when they first wake up in the morning. If you feel pain or discomfort whilst in bed try and adjust your sleep position and perhaps prop your arm up with a pillow.

If you are in a lot of discomfort try keeping your wrist in a natural position and not bent, with a splint. At all times avoid sleeping on your hands and if you wake up with pain shake your hands until the pain and numbness is reduced.

Practicing yoga can also help relieve the pain and increase hand strength as well as performing Carpal Tunnel Exercises.

If Carpal Tunnel pain is still present after your baby has been born, make sure you mention it to your health advisor or midwife so she can refer you to an orthopedist as appropriate.
